Does anyone know what the update/ timeframe cycles are for the ipod mini? I'm just wondering if there will be a colour scren version of the mini coming out with the next release.

Jason

I don't think the iPod Mini will get a colour screen for a long while. The Mini is attractively priced for younger people and those that want a fairly large amount of music on the go. I can see the 20gig iPod going colour or being discontinued in the future though.

agreed, it will be a good while before the mini gets color sceens, because for one the screen is even smaller than the Photos, so viewing pictures would be a hassle, if they allow this functionality even....i say a year or so before they minis get some major enhancement like this

I have a colour ipod (30gig), and I've just sold my 40 gig ipod for a ridiculously low price to make way for an ipod mini purchase. No one in the uk seems to want to buy second hand ipods, even when their in mint condition.

I just want the mini for jogging purposes and cant buy into the concept of a shuffle thing with no screen. I have an ankle injury at the moment, so I'm not in a major rush to purchase the mini. If their not going colour for a while, then i might as well buy one sooner rather than later.

Thanks guys

Jason
p.s How water resistent is the mini? Will it hold up to a run in the rain while on one of apples own branded armbands? I'm assuming the arm band is good enough for the mini not to drop off it while on a vigerous run.

if you are going to be seriously working out with it i would go for a shuffle... for a couple of reasons...

1. the mini still has a hard drive in it, which means that running with it isnt the best thing for the drive, the shuffle though has flash memory, which means that no amount of shock is going to hurt it.

2. the mini is a decent weight compared to the shuffle, the shuffle is unnoticable when holding it or having it in your pocket, makes it easier for a run

3. if you are running you are not going to need to look at the screen anyways, just pop your workout playlist or whatever on the shuffle and you are good to go

4. the mini is not water resistant at all as you asked, its just a smaller version of the regular ipods in a AL shell, i wouldnt want it to get rained out out in the open personally, the shuffle, well with the sport case you would probably be good to go with no worries, and it will still be small enough and light enough to run with

thats just my advice, plus you get to save some money with a shuffle

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I guess I'm more concerned about the lack of screen for when I'm in the gym lifting weights. And I have been known to get bored of certain tracks while out and about on a run, so the lack of a screen could be annoying.

Correct me if im wrong but he sports case is a necklace thing that bounces up and down around your neck when you run?? Istn that a little annoying?

well the lack of a screen isnt that bad, after all if you like to shuffle your songs in the first place its not too bad, or just be sure to make a playlist with songs that you know that you enjoy working out to, the 1 gig shuffle only holds 240 songs.....so you can be picky if you want to be, and if i find a song that i dont like or want to hear right then, its not too much to just tap the next button..

the sport case does come on a lanyard i believe, but for running what i would do is just tuck it between my undershirt and shirt, that would stop most movement, the shuffle does have an armband as well, so that would be useful, but still being an electronic device i wouldnt let it get soaked, i would imagine though that the shuffle can definitely take more of a beating than a mini could

I never shuffle songs, ever. And I very rarely click a playlist. I tend to listen to a song over and over till im a bit sick fo it, then skip to another one while im running. I quite fancy teh rio forge sport, it has a display and the all important stopwatch! something the shuffle doesnt have. I've only just though about it, but the display is really important for timekeeping. My heart is telling me to buy everything apple, but my head is wondering if there is a better alternative elsewhere.

If that ipod shhuffle sports case is good, then that might be the best solution. i dont want to give up running in the rain, I live in wales if i did that id never go for a run lol.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated

no problem, and i would look at the other options besides Apple, you might find something that suits your needs better for working out, but i would surely go for something flash-based over hard drive, besides Rio check our iRiver products as well, good luck!

Bah  just made an impulse buy and went for the shuffle with armband for those rare occasions when its not raining in wales, and the sports case for those wet windy days we like to call summer!

Thanks for all of the advice!

Amen to that bro. Realy I dont see the purpas of making the shufler when the new ipod update has a shufler built in to it. I love my ipod mini and actualy dont even use the shufler that much. So why make a hole ipod that cant hold asmany songs and can only shufle? its prity unnecisary if u ask me
