iPod Mini Firewire charger compatible?

Is the iPod Mini (first gen) firewire to wall charger compatible with the iPod touch or will it blow up my iPod? I dislike having to charge via USB and also do not want to go buy a new wall charger. The charger outputs 12 Volts while the Ipod touch is rated for 5 to 30 volts. Now I just need to make sure the firewire cable will charge.

i've been using the 4th gen charger that's connected to a dock with the remote receiver to charge my ipod touch

I have taken a risk and connected it and found out that it does work.
