I was off out last night, and on leaving my flat I had my mini in hand, switched it into Shuffle songs and put it in the inside pocket of my jacket.
Or so I thought.
I'd actually bypassed the pocket and just dropped the mini into empty space... and it plummeted right into the particularly uneven pavement
It was slowed a little by the remote control clip, and on picking it up it seemed unscratched - but it was dark at this point.
On getting onto the Tube I had another look and there is a very minor dint on the front below the screen, two or three small gouges (they really are small, but deep) on the left hand edge near the bottom, and another dint has raided a very small section of the bottom of the mini, so if you run your hand around you can feel the difference.. its slightly sharp and raised in that one place.
In the grand scheme of things all very minor, but I'm one of those folks who likes his pride and joys perfect, and with the next mini gen supposedly around the corner, i'm taking it as a sign...

One of my friends has offered to buy it off me for £120 as such minor flaws don't bother her, but she would like it next week... should I do it? I really rely on my mini for tunes every day, but could make do with my phones radio for a week or so if the next mini is ready for release..... whadya think?

(PS I've leant my Shuffle to a friend who is training for the London Marathon so can't exactly ask for it back now!)

Sorry to hear about this. I dropped my 2G iPod several times and it still looks good and works like a charm.

Considering the minis, I'm unsure. They're said to be updated and are due as they were introduced more than one year ago, but it's been very quiet the last days or weeks, so it might take some more time than one week or two. I think noone without inside knowledge would know when they become updated.

Are you sure your friend won't take it in, say, a month when you ordered a new one (though it might take more time)? And when's this Marathon? Perhaps you can hold on until then, when you get your Shuffle back.

I'd say go for it, it's like being offered to upgrade for half price :) And it's always nice for things to remain new and shiny :D

Yep, I noticed the next gen mini rumours are rather thin on the ground at the mo, although it has been noted that the europe apple stores (online) have suddenly moved all Mini stock to 8 days delivery... which is identical to what happened before the latest powerbooks came out. So its theoretically possible for a release in the next couple of weeks.
Veldek, the Marathon isn't until mid April :( so bit of a wait really.
If the only upgrade to the minis is the extra gig storage, I can't say I'd be too bothered, and if my mini was still in flawless shape I'd definately not be upgrading....
But since the drop, I wouldn't want to get a new mini next week only to have the next gen released the week after!
Mentalfabric - nice to see someone who thinks the same as me :D nice, new and shiney and thats the way I like 'em!
