iPod iPod Mini Song Selection Question - HELP

Recently, my mini does not accept my song selections from Playlists or any location. Instead, the display sequentially cycles through the playlist and stops on songs that were pushed to my device from iTunes.com for free and plays them.

I have not set Shuffle or any other setting (I think) from my default settings. It seems like it is playing my "Least Played Songs" automatically and is not accepting my selections.

Is this a newbie fat finger event, legitimate functionality, or defect?

I havn't heard of anything like this. Sorry, but it sounds kind of like a defect, I may be wrong though.
