Ok quick question. My brother just got a brand new ipod mini 4 gig with i guess a buy a mac get free ipod deal. He is offering to sell it to me for $100. Should I do it? Or should I save for a bigger ipod? Thanks

If thats a new iPod mini then $100 is half price. I'd say go for it!

I have a 4 GB mini (1G) and over 10.000 songs on my iBook. I just sync my favorite playlists (and I have many playlists), typically about 6-700 songs, to my iPod and have NEVER found myself wanting to hear a song not on it at any given time...

Does anyone know if an ipod mini is compatible with usb 1.1. My computer does not have usb 2.0 and thats the only cable the mini came with. I do have firewire on my mac, but am not too up on getting a $40 firewire cable if I don't have too. Also how long would it take to load 4 gigs of music through usb 1.1 if it works. I have heard about 1 hr per gig but if you do the math,

4gigs=4000megs
usb 1.1= 12 Mbps

so 4000/12=333.3sec=about 5 and a half minutes

If it takes only 5.5 min to load 4 gigs of music tthats fast enough for me!

Imagine that 12Mbps was a 12Mbps internet connection... So... A transfer speed of about 1500Kb/sec me thinks... So your maths is a bit wrong there ;)

4 GB = 4000 MegaBytes
USB 1.1 = 12 MegaBits per second
1 bit = 8 bytes

4000 x 8 / 12 = 2666 seconds or about 44 minutes

canadaram,

i am glad someone finally cleared it up, but you had one typo

1 Byte = 8 bits

also i presume you know 4GB is actually 4096MegaBytes (2^12)

abd answer to original question it will work with USB 1.1

cheers
