iPod iPod music dissapeared!!

omg someone please help me. I had my iPod hooked up to my laptop had the music playin on iTunes. Then i notice that the music stopped playing and i look at iTunes and almost all my music is gone. My iPod was nearly full and all the music that is missing looks like it turned into the "other" files. I dont know what to do, i dont have any of the music that i had on my ipod saved anywhere. I really dont want to reset the whole thing cause then i would lose all my music. Can someone please help me fix this????

Do you have iTunes 8.1 (or whatever the newest version is)? If so I would say contact Apple immediately. I know several people, including myself that has had music (purchased and imported) suddenly disappear once I upgraded.
