iPod iPod Nano 16gb, iPod Touch 32 or 64gb or stay with Creative Zen 8gb?

Hello everybody,

I've made this thread to get some insights so that I can make my own decision.

So don't worry, I'm not asking you all to make a decision for me, just to tell me your experience and thoughts on the next (1st world) problem that I'm facing.

In 2008 I got the first Creative Zen mp3 player as a gift and I 'fell in love' with this device. It's simple to use, robust and does what I like it to do, namely just play music. At the time I was also a Microsoft hardliner.

Since last year I switched to Apple, starting with the iMac after just having enough of re-installing Windows for the umtied time. The experiment worked and 3 months later I bought an iPad 2 to test tablets...also liked it and again 3 months later an iPhone 4S followed (my very first smartphone).

Now the problem is that my Creative Zen is still going strong, but the Creative company does no support for it on MacOSX or iOS.
Yes, I know of the existence of XNJB, even tried it and while it should work, it doesn’t (I’m running Snow Leopard).
So this limits my option: install Windows 7 and have a dual boot system on my iMac, which nullifies the benefits of using a Mac, especially if it’s only for the Creative Zen.

Then I was thinking about putting my music on my iPhone, but when I game from time to time on it (Blades of Fury, Real Steel, Infinity Blade, etc…), the battery gets drained quit quick and I use my mp3 player a lot.

So, I was than thinking about getting an iPod Nano 16gb (Zen is 8gb) for just playing my music, but on the one hand, I use my iPhone to play games and it has more a “work” vibe to it (calling, mails, etc…), that I was also considering getting an iPod Touch, exclusively used for music and gaming.
I would then be thinking about a 32gb version then instead of a 16gb version or is the 64gb better?

A problem to make up my mind is here that my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 have the same technology, while the iPod Touch has the previous technology and I don’t know what the plans are from Apple (bring out an A5 processer or an A5x or stay with the A4).

Also what is the battery life of an iPod Nano for music, what is the OS and what is the battery life on the iPod Touch when used for music and gaming?

I’ve been pondering about this for a certain time and everything has got pro’s and con’s.

So please tell me about your experiences with Nano and Touch, installing Windows in dual boot, give your preference when you also can justify it.
Just saying “if I was you, I would get the Nano” without adding “why” is not a beneficial for me to make up my own mind.

Oh yes I really thought hard about getting a zen they are great little things even at the time (if my memory serves me correctly) they played video before the nano did. Anyway your question I also made the jump to a mac and never looked back I have a macbook, like you I also have an iPhone (old one 2g beautiful design though) but its only 8gb and i have filled up my 16gb nano 4th gen so I went and got a iPod classic it holds all my movies, music and photos as well as calendar and contacts ok yes the 2.5 inch screen is a little small for watching video but you have the luxury of an iPad 2 which i don't so video are covered by that really. There is nothing wrong with a 16gb nano 6th gen and you can use it as a watch I wouldn't go with an iPod touch price per gb is too high and besides you already have an iPhone and an iPad so i really don't see the point in a touch just use the iPhone or iPad for apps. The battery life on iPods (nano and classic not touch) are way better than your iPhone by miles something like 12 hours listing to music on a nano and even more on a classic. It really comes down too how stuff in iTunes you have and where you see yourself in 5 years because you could fill a 16gb nano up where as a 160gb classic could take you years. Its up to you I hope that gives you something to think about

It gives me indeed something to think about, because I hadn't considered my iPad as a gaming device.

The nano has 24 hour battery life and the classic is something like 30 hours. So if you need better battery life it's a good way to go. I think the thought is how much storage you need to have like if you have a lot of music and like having it with you all the time get the classic otherwise the nano would work. I wear my nano 6g as a watch and hardly ever use it as an iPod I am weird like that. I am an apple freak and own to many apple products lol. I have an iPad two MacBooks iPhone 4 so you would think I wouldnt need the classic but I find myself using it more then anything else for listing to music because I like having my whole music collection (I have like over 80gb of music) when on the go and traveling. So I would just evaluate your needs and make a choice based on your needs.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not really interested in the Classic, mainly because it has a mechanical HD and not SD or SSD.

chibiterasu gave me a certain direction of thinking, that if I use the iPad and in lesser the iPhone as a gaming station, I wouldn't need an iPhone Touch.

The price per GB is indeed expensive, especially since I don't need any of the other programs than music and gaming, considering that the internal hardware is 'outdated'. Especially since all the rest is covered by my other two iOS devices.

So it became an iPod Nano 16 gb for soley placing my mp3s, but damn...it's tiny compaired to my Creative Zen. I was almost thinking about adding it to a keychain that bleeps when you whistle .

I'm now in the process of de-tagging and than standard re-tagging of all my mp3s, gaining them all to 99dB and when that's done, I'll fill up the iPod Nano and the Creative Zen one last time again (with the workPC).

Why not use that money to buy a Mophie Juice Pack Plus for your iPhone? You said you don't play games on it because the battery drains quick. The Mophie Juice Pack Plus is a battery case with enough juice in it to keep the iPhone running nearly all day long.

I've never run out of battery while on the go with it and even if I do, that's what I have the Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation for.

Seriously, take a look for yourself. Its the perfect case, its beautiful and its extremely functional.

Apple fed it with so little ram and that A4 processor just cannot handle what games can do now a days. I'd stay away from it no matter what. Even if you're collecting Apple stuff, don't buy the fourth-gen. Wait until the fifth-generation before buying an iPod touch.

The juice Pack Powerstation is interesting, but I found out why my iPhone really drained its battery.
I discovered that all the apps that I had used in the last year were still in standby mode. Once they were closed, batterylife increased exceptional.
