iPod iPod nano 4 gen and "stars"

Hi,
in the iPod nano, we can put stars to the songs but ... what are those for ? There is no "best rated" selection (or equivalent) so what are those stars for.

Can we at least sync them back to iTunes ?

i dont sync with my library so i dont know how it differs
but u can make the smart playlists from scratch on the ipod to do it
thats what i did
e.g. top rated and stuff

I believe you can create a smart list that will take all of the high rated songs.
