iPod ipod nano 4gen frozen on apple screen

I am at the end of my tether.

I have a 8gb 4gen ipod nano which has been working fine till the other day. It has frozen on the apple screen. I have'

reset it using the centre button and menu button ect... many times
Restarted it using itunes. many times
tried restarting it in disk mode. many times too.

The thing is that it still clicks and plays music when i shake it. So what is going on? Has anyone had this problem and most importantly; does anyone know how to fix it?

I don't want to send it to the apple store.
