My friend got a new iPod Nano 6G since his Nano 5G has a broken screen. He gave it to me and I looked up the hardware serial number and saw that it is still under warranty. Can I get the screen replaced for free at the Apple Store? Also, how long would the repair take?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Well, I don't think it will be free, especially if your friend didn't transfer any AppleCare for it to you.

According to iFixit, the parts cost to fix are approximately:
Glass: $20
LCD Display (if the glass breakage ruined the display): $30
Then there's labor.

My guess is that you'd get a suggestion to buy a new one.

Just went to an apple store today. The guy gave me their last blue 16gb nano 5g since I had one day left on my warranty and he was in a giving mood because of the holidays. Lucky me! Haha
