Hello,

I'm new here, i'm a mac user but i have some issues with the new iPod nano.
First of all , i bought it this weekend and when i putted some songs on it and let it charge fully, after listening to music for about 15-20 minutes the meter is already at 80% , so i was like WTF... on my touch it took me almost a couple of hours to let it go to 80 %

Second , my iPod nano 6g screen makes a lot of noise when u put ur ear to it ( i know u normaly don't put ur ear to a nano, but i'm just checking if you guys might have the same problem because my imac screen also made that noise and it also was a hardware failure ).. so do your ipod nano 6g screen makes noise?

Let me know,

Thanx in advance , and sorry about my bad english.

the battery problem has been the big talk lately. apperently the battery life sucks on those things. and the screen thing should be perfectly normal ur gona hear something.;)

Mine doesn't make any weird noises and I've had it playing for several hours today and it isn't down to 80% yet.

i dont know much about the noise but the battery life forr most people is horrible.:(

Mine battery life has been quite good. Nothing super phenomenal, but still quite good, and certainly not horrible. The only thread I've seen here about Nano 6G battery life is the one from a few weeks ago where the guy got 4 hours on Radio, and radio will drain it much faster. Everyone else in the thread mentioned good battery life. In fact there aren't any threads on the first page here of iPod threads about battery and the first one I could find is the one I mentioned.

Well, I haven't tried the one I exchanged for enough to really say (I'm still on the first charge, but I exchanged my first sixth gen for battery reasons), but I will note that on full volume through my motorcycle helmet's speakers, the sixth gen lasted all of 2.5 hours (I returned it cause of that in hopes I got a bad one). I know cause I left it alone and let it play just to see how long it would go. Yes, that's full volume, but that's just mp3 playing and I'd think if they claim 24 hours at half volume, I should be getting way more than 2 1/2 at full. Plus it would drain a decent amount of battery just having the pedometer on and not even using it for anything but that (1/4 used in the day)! The current one seems to be better but haven't really had a chance to really test it so don't know. I'm hoping my first one was faulty (though first apple guy claimed the battery tested fine. Second guy I had done my own test and he agreed 2 1/2 hours shouldn't be right, I hope he's right).

So far, of the three nanos I've had, the 3rd gen had a superior battery by *far*. Even my fifth gen has been a disappointment in comparison (it's dealable but it's definitely not as good as the 3rd gen). The third gen I used for my motorcycle and managed to last a whole weekend worth of riding without needing to recharge. And a week's worth of use, which included 30 minute walks with the dog everyday (not full volume) plus commuting on the motorcycle, had me recharging it twice at most.

Thanks, glad i'm not the only one..
I left my ipod nano playing at work all day 7,6 hours with love volume.
completly drained, gonna charge it fully 3 hours see what happends.

I don't live by an apple store so i have to send it to 'em.

Used mine for about 5-6 hours yesterday at work, and another 1 total in the car and about 2-3 hours this morning. So somewhere in the neighborhood of 9 hours use. It is sitting at 50%. Last time I charged it was Sunday night.

Don't think I will get 24 hours, but I expect at least 15-20.

Yeah, i know 24hrs is impossible, i talked to a guy who worked at apple, he said 24hr is only reachable if you play a song and let it play the whole playlist without browsing or playing with it.

Yeah, I really can't complain, another 3 hours now puts me at 12-13 hours on this charge and it looks like I am down just below 40%, maybe 1/3 left.

I too noticed the battery tends to drain fast on the 6th gen when I am swiping between different screens and icons. If you use the FM radio, then the battery will drain really fast, but that was true with the 5th gen as well.

Have you drained the battery once and then a full charge?

Are you talking OP?

I will say for that 2 1/2 hours I posted this was the conditions.

Ipod had been drained three times and fully charged after each drain.

Ipod was put on full charge connected to my motorcycle helmet (it has speakers), volume put on full, screen turned off, playing songs off my mp3 list, and turned on once an hour just to check to see where battery was at and then sleep button pressed to turn off screen. At around 2 1/2 hours ipod stopped playing cause it completely ran out of battery. The only battery draining thing that happened to it was full volume (I know it was tested at half volume for the 24 hour claim but 1/12 the battery to double the volume?). The helmet's speakers play at about the level of headphones, maybe marginally louder (but they are designed to be right next to your ears as your helmet surrounds your ears so they aren't like speakers designed to play open air).

Granted, I am hoping I got a defective one which is why I returned it after conducting that test (I would have been marginal if it lasted 5 hours, been completely happy if it lasted 7 or 8).

2nd day still, just over 14-15 hours of use. Just hit around 20% left.

3rd day now without plugging in. 17-18 hours of total listening. Still going but deep in the red. My guess is it will die in the next hour or two max. I do let it play for 20-30 minutes at a time, but have activated the screen quite often to change playlists, tracks, check battery, check watch, etc. I'm sure if I left it alone more, it would run longer.

EDIT: Update - it should die soon, maybe. Bout a half hour ago it came on twice and announced low power, but the music is still playing. So another 3+ hours now, and it has gone 20-21 hours. I'd say their 24 hours isn't too far off.

Hrmmm.

Ok, so my new one has had about maybe 3 hours of use (40 minutes to an hour of motorcycle riding, prolly more like 40 minutes, my commute is not that long, an hour on my roommate's little plane through the plane's headsets where it was almost full volume, and 1 hrs worth of walking on low volume but with pedometer) when it died. It also has not been charged since thursday (when I got it) so it did have some idle time. This time it was regular use where I didn't keep the screen off and did mess with it some (changing songs and whatnot).

It seems it really is the motorcycle that kills it, maybe it's something about my helmet (I guess my 3rd gen spoiled me as it was able to handle that and the battery still lasted a long time). Walking doesn't seem to eat much juice and even on the plane it only took 1/4 - 1/3 of the battery. My commute to work on my bike, which is about 40-60 minutes total takes almost half the battery (I swear my third gen it would take maybe 1/8th. I mean there was a big difference between it and current one. Even my fifth gen seemed not so great in comparison, it may not have been much better than this one but since i was hoping that some how this one would be better maybe I was paying more attention).

Of course this is on the first charge so maybe it will improve (it does seem to be better than my last sixth gen's first charge but the sixth gen was brand new to me then so I was playing with it more and the screen was on more and used the radio some where this time it was all mp3 playing).

What helmet setup are you using? I have a pair of high end headsets that I use at max volume and I don't get the same problem.

Nolan N102? (I forget the number, it's the one they have set up so that you can install different kits into it. I think the speakers either came with the helmet or were one of the kits that the helmet was designed for. I've had it for a few years so I forget if I had to install that part or not. I know I did have to buy a kit to listen to an mp3 player with it but I don't remember if that was speakers as well).

Oh, and as I said before, my 3rd gen ipod seemed to handle the helmet fine (Though admittedly the fifth gen also seemed to get battery drained quickly from the helmet but I don't think as drastically as my sixth gen).

Well mine finally died. Right about 21 hours of use. I'd say that is phenomenal. ;)
