One of my family members has a 5th generation iPod nano and asked me for advice about a problem. I want to maintain my pretense in the family that I'm an Apple know-it-all. Will you help me? I didn't spot a previous thread about this. Shhh.. don't tell my family that I asked you!

He says that when he's listening to music on his earphones, playing one of his playlists, the nano will sometimes make the beep you hear when you connect it to the computer and then switch from the middle of the song to the start of the first song in his library. It happens even on a full charge. It happens on different songs, and the same song may play just fine the next time. He hasn't found any pattern at all to when it happens.

What might cause this symptom? What might be done about it?

"Shake to Shuffle" acting up?
You solved his problem. He turned off Shake to Shuffle, which he didn't want anyway, and the symptom disappeared.

I of course took all of the credit for solving the problem. ;)

Thanks!

Excellent to see it resolved
Everyone of us would do the same and take credit for it
