iPod iPod Nano (Late 2010) Discussion Thread

Agreed. I think they took a step backwards. BUT... I now think that Apple did this to focus more on the iPod touch.
I agree with Peterson8765; this is an attempt to draw customers towards the touch line, which will drive more game and app sales.
There is a side benefit for Apple from all this, from a production standpoint. The new nano's OS is heavily based on iOS 4, so Apple didn't have to write the OS and UI totally from scratch. This will also open up mini-game possibilities not available on the previous nanos.
Still, I'm glad I have my 5th gen. Video recording and especially video playback capability, combined with the no-look control of the Click Wheel, are too important for me.

As the more (expensive) iPod touches are being sold, more are being made and therefore getting cheaper for Apple to produce, making the profit margins bigger. By taking away a camera (a main feature of last year's nano) and putting it on the touch, it draws more users away from the nano (and the smaller profit). Also the touch has apps so Apple can also earn millions more than with the nano.

I think so, some photos of the nano on apple.com show it with different walls.
It's the perfect format for the gym, doubly so with Nike+ functionality. Pre-ordered the Product (Red) version as soon as the store was back up.
I've an iPhone so video (and video recording) isn't an issue for me, but I am surprised it wasn't pitched at £99 for the 8GB...

Call it the nano 6G, or 6th generation nano.
Personally the update was terrible. As an update to the shuffle, it would've been substantial and awesome. As an update to the nano, it's a horrendous failure. Will not be buying, and will probably pick up an extra 5th gen nano, as three of my friends did this morning.

Well they removed pretty much everything that was good about the nano;
Click wheel so you can change song without taking it out of your pocket.

I really dont need another music player... BUT, this does look really cool and if anyone releases any neat watch band that will work with the clip then a cool "watch" music player might be in my future. Video? That was always pointless, i wont miss it.
I like it. I love the design, its really nano this time and i like that it has a touch screen and FM-radio. The only thing I don't really like is the absence of a internal speaker for an alarmclock and no calendar. I want my calendar everywhere
Anyway, I still have some questions about it.
- Do you think it can be used as a portable player in a car? I'd love to hook that small thing up on my car stereo and have 16 gigs with me all the time.
- Will it play small movies? Like cellphone recorded movies? (just for fun, i'd love to have those around with me all the time)
- Can it read playlists? Can you organise your music? I never used another iPod then my iPhone

Answering your questions, in order:
Yes, it should be able to be used in any car player that has the standard Dock Connector or standard 1/8" stereo input (referred to on some car stereos as "aux input").
No, this new generation apparently cannot play video at all.
Yes, it understands and syncs your existing music playlists.
