Hi there,
I wear a 6th gen nano as a watch so I like to be able to press the sleep/wake button and go right to the watch face. The problem is, I have noticed that when I have a song playing, even if I sleep the iPod while it is displaying the clock, when I wake up again, it displays now playing, then I have to swipe left TWICE to get back to the clock, very very annoying. The only remedy I have found is rebooting the device, but obviously I don't want to have to do that every time I finish listening to music. Is there a way to "stop" the music rather than just pausing it or quitting out of now playing, or a way to default the watch as the screen every time I press sleep/wake?

Mine does the same. The work-around which works for me is to go to the home-screen before sleeping the device. Hope this helps you.

I actually discovered the solution on my own while going through the settings. Settings ->General -> Date & Time -> Time on Wake
