how do I delete all songs from the iPod part of my iPad... it takes up too much memory? I want to reload with just playlists

In iTunes, select your iPad. You should see lots of tabs near the top of iTunes, that say, Summary, Apps, Music, etc. Click on Music. Click the round box next to "Selected playlists, artists, and genres." Now you should see boxes that lets you select which playlists you want to sync.

And no, there's no need to drain the battery before recharging, just recharge whenever you feel like it.

thanks, but I think I need to clear it first- delete all the songs and start over... or will Itunes clear it for me at the same time?

thanks everybody... I guess I should have gotten the 32 gb instead of the 16 :(
