I am having the following problem on WinXP on a new iPod Classic 80GB.

It was syncing correctly, now the following occurs:

1)plug in iPod
2)iTunes starts, iPod shows up on left
3)iPod indicates it is syncing, rotating arrows
4)sync complete, iPod disconnects
5)I can view iPod contents from iTunes
6)Select new playlist to sync (or any changes for that matter)
7)Press Apply
8)No reaction from iPod, iTunes says sync in progress, do not disconnect
9)iTunes times out with error message saying it can't find the disk

10)If I try to set disk mode, when I press apply same as steps 8 and 9

Is this an iPod or a software problem?
Any suggestions?
(I have tried reinstalling iTunes - selected repair - no help.
The latest iPod software installed with no problem - did that cause this?)
