Hey
I've got a 3rd gen iPod (the one with the scroll wheel and four buttons above it) and I've had it for almost 3 years and its never failed me until now. The lock button is stuck, thus meaning I can't turn it on, play/pause music, scroll menu's, etc. So I just shuts itself down and does nothing unless I plug it into my computer, in which case it works perfectly as a hard drive, with iTunes etc. Once again however as soon as I take it off the dock its useless. Due to the controls being locked I can't even reboot it by pressing menu and play. Please help somebody......

This was a problem with the 3rd gen, sometimes the slider would jump off the switch inside. Your choices are to pry open the shell and reseat the switch lever, or give the iPod a good smack (well, not so good a smack that you break the rest of the iPod in the process …). No, I'm not kidding.

Check out iMeowbot, reaching into the archives - nicely done. This is why I love this site.
