I've been thinking about buying one of these to replace my aging iPod with the monochrome screen. I like to have a color display, and I actually do put photos on it. I also might buy a second one for my folks. They'd use it with an old dock on their patio. Anyone know if the sound or DAC is any different on the photo model?

Should be better. Advancements since those older models.

Wolfson's are supposed to sound the best. Here's one from the vault:

Excellent article. Would love to see an updated one.
There’s no doubt pods and phones have improved as they’ve moved along.
I have a number of shuffles (including 1st, 2nd, and last) and there’s a huge difference between the 1st and 3rd gen. Also still have the squat nano and that’s an improvement over the shuffles. Just got a 6th gen touch and there’s a little improvement.
Have had phones 3GS, 4s, 6S+, and Max. All significantly improved as they went along.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say.

This is the iPod Photo. it's a 4th gen Classic with a color display, but there are a few differences on how it's wired up. I've found conflicting reports as to whether the sound hardware changed at all between the two models.

Hi. So I think you are asking if the iPod 4th gen and the iPod Photo 4th gen use the Wolfson DAC?

If that is your question, then I do believe yes, they both use that DAC.
