iPod iPod recognized but cannot be synced?

I have an old iPod 20GB, and fromthe day I bought it, I can't get it to synchronize becuase it doesn't appear in the syncable devices. All other things work well on this iPod, except this.

I didn't get it to sync neither in Panther, nor on Tiger.

Any ideas of what the problem might be?
