So I've had my 3G Ipod for a year and 5 months now. Recently I noticed that the outer layer of the cable on the remote (the lower end that plugs into the ipod) is tearing around where it connects to the plug. So now I can see something like 4 colored wires, which I'm not supposed to!

I guess its only a matter of time that the pulling and wiggling around will break one of the wires. Great. Now I have to fork out something like 30 euros for a new remote which i get a pair of lousy apple earbuds with which I already have and don't use. Thanks for the quality materials Apple!

Weird, mine got "the tear" a few months ago. I just figured it was because it was upside-down in my car's armrest will all the iPod's weight sitting on the joint between the cable and the plug

i got the ripping on just my headphone wires after about 18 months, one of the plastic coverings was pulling up where the two headphone wires merges into one, thankfully we were getting my brother an iPod mini with the in-ear headphones so i got the ones that came with the mini
