iPod ipod replacement

Hey does anyone know how apple handles ipod replacements. I have the applecare on my 3rd Gen Ipod, and it finally kicked the bucket the other day. I would doubt they would try to fix mine, so I was wondering if they would replace it with a refurb, or give me a new one?

I'm thinking refurb. That's what they did w/ my 4g40 3 times before they gave me off-the-shelf 60
