hey i have an ipod touch, plugged it into the computer and computer shut down so i reset my ipod on resetting it ran out of power and now i pod is stuck on black screen, apple logo appears for a few seconds when i hit the power button but nothing when i press the menu button.

please help ????

also when plugging it into the computer it does not register

First, make sure your iPod is fully charged. Charge it from a charger, not from a PC/Mac.

Next, try powering up your iPod. If it works, great. If not, try powering up holding both the power and the home button at the same time, for 10 full seconds.

If that doesn't work, post here again and we'll come up with another idea. Possibly not involving sledgehammers and YouTube.
 
If your iPod was jailbroken with a tethered jailbreak, re-run redsn0w on it. If it was not jailbroken, a DFU mode restore should get it working again.
