iPod ipod serial number

using DOS I intend to access and retrieve the serial number stored on an ipod. I cannot find the file in which it is stored or a comand that will search and find it. I tried using "find", but that didn't work and "grep" but my computer does not have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Serial is listed on the back of your iPod or under "About" in iPod menus.
