I've got a 2nd generation and love it. Looking to get a 4th generation for my dad in his 60s who has never used a computer and some additional units for myself, but have some questions:
1. I've seen a lot of complaints about the earphone cord controls getting moisture in it a frying the controls. Apparently this only refers to the 3rd generation correct?
2. From a ergonomic point of view I am concerned with the controls being on the cord. I typically do 10-15 mile walk/run combos after work and I am concerned about the controls on the cord bouncing up and down all that time: (a) this is going to be annoying; and (b) this will likely break the unit from wear and tear. The only way I see out of this is to clip the controls to my shirt in addition to clipping the shuffle unit itself to my shirt - assuming of course I can rig up a clip that will work.
I hate to have to byte the bullet and pay $100.00 for those 2nd generation models people bought all up to resell after finding out about the crappy later models. Perhaps its time to have a petition sent to Apple to reissue the 2nd generation design
