iPod iPod Shuffle owners..

I don't know that the Special Edition version is worth the $99 but I was thinking about picking up a $59 model. Can anyone comment on how the shuffle holds up over time for wear and tear? Does it scratch easily? I would probably get the Silver or Black. Anyone with the Special Edition? How does the finish hold up?

Well...

The iPod shuffle's clip scratches easily and is a fingerprint magnet. the finish on the iPod itself is just like the Macbook Pro's Finish, not very scratchable to my use of it

Honestly i wouldnt suggest a shuffle at all. Its for very light music use only, im not so sure about you but the fact that a screen isnt there just bugs me.

The nano's are better.
They are more but think of all the things you could use the nano for beside's going to the gym.
They are almost as light too.

I got a 4 GB black shuffle, and I'm pretty happy with it, it serves as a supplement to my 160 GB iPod Classic, I use it for working out and biking, because it's much more lightweight.

As stated above, the clip is a fingerprint magnet, and scratches very easily (I think it's made from the same metal as the backplate on iPod touches). The iPod itself hasn't scratched yet, in fact it's holding up pretty good.

Also, on the nano vs. shuffle-thing, I'd go with the shuffle, but that's just because it suits my needs better. I had a 4G nano, that I sold once I got my classic, because it couldn't hold all of my music anymore, and I find that I'm syncing my shuffle more often, so that I listen to only the music I currently like/work out to.

Don't get a shuffle now, wait until early September when the new ones will be refreshed, since you are basically forced to use Apple's dreaded earbuds with the shuffle if you don't buy a $20 adapter from a third party, I would wait because Apple might include an adapter in when it is refreshed. They could also do a slight price drop and a very slight chance of a redesign/refresh of colors. The iPod shuffle is perfect for the gym or for just a starter iPod, I know it was my first iPod.

Depending upon your specific needs you may want to consider a 2nd Gen model of the shuffle. I've had a 1gb silver model for a couple of years now and I like having the controls on the unit as opposed to the headphones. Mine's held up well to heavy workout and outdoor use. I know they used to have a lot of them availale in the refurb store so you could watch there to see if any show up.

Well, if you have a Touch or a classic i guess it would be a cheap alternative. But if you dont have either a nano would be most likely be better.

As a fan of the iPod Shuffle, I think a better bargain would be the Sansa Clip+, it is around $40-$50 for a 4GB model, has a screen and a micro SD expansion slot.

Better for what? How do you workout with a nano if your pants have no pockets? Besides, the second Generation Shuffle is the greatest piece of design that has ever surfaced.
