iPod ipod software problem

I have the new version of iTunes, fully updated Mac and an ipod touch. I plugged the ipod in last night, pushed update and I cannot get past the blue and white bars that scroll across. All it does is say that the software is downloading but the progress bar never even comes up. Very frustrating.

Any ideas

Anybody having the same problem as me??? I've tried for 2 days now and nothing but the blue and white bar
