I have a feeling someone has already posted this question, but since the search engine is currently unavailable and I couldn't seem to find an answer on the rest of the net- I post here. Can a first gen (original scroll wheel) ipod be updated/hacked to run the new ipod software (allowing play list editing on the ipod, AAC etc)? If so how?

I sincerely doubt there is anyway to make the 2.1 software run on it. But you should be able to run 1.3 software on it thus gaining AAC support.
