Little story about an iPod in Austria:

Last semester my girlfriend was studying abroad in Vienna, and bought the Belkin Voice Recorder to record her classes with. There was a table in front of the class where tons of people had recording devices set every class, and that's where she put hers, and she sat right in front so she could grab it right when class ended to make sure no one stole it.

Well, you can guess what happened. One day when she looked down to put her notebook in her backpack before standing up at the end of class, she looked up and it was gone from the table.

Now, most people would be horribly distraught if this happened. Losing an expensive device that they used for education (when you're in a class talking in a different language than your native one, a recording is not just a convenience). But she had several bad things happen to her the entire time she was there, and she wasn't sad, she was furious. She ran to the only exit before anyone left and blocked it, and said that no one was leaving until she got it back. The people in front of her were uncaring, as is generally the atmosphere in Vienna, and tried to shove her out of the way. She was not about to take this, and slugged them in the chest and shoved them back, refusing to budge. We're talking over a hundred people against one, and she wasn't about to listen to them.

Eventually, the teacher got involved and made everyone swarm the original table so the theif could drop it off without being seen, and then disperse to the back of the class. Whoever stole it left it (and the Belkin Voice Recorder) on the table and she got it back.

Just thought I'd share that story. If something bad happens to you, don't just sit back and let it happen.

Wow, glad she got it back...and let me just say, even though this is anatomically impossible, your girlfriend has some balls for doing that...good for her!

Ha, I guess that's one way to put it :). Yeah, she's not the type to just take people's s***. I was still fairly suprised that she stood up to the entire class, though.
