iPod iPod syncing problem

Whenever I try syncing my 8GB iPod Touch to iTunes there is an error with the "MD Crash Report Tool" and then is followed by the painfully slow process of backing up my iPod. Can anyone tell what is wrong and what to do?

EDIT: Also, if it helps, I use a MacBook (2GB RAM, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 250GB HDD) and use OS X 10.5.4.

Well someone on the Apple forums said they restored it from the backup, and that solved the problem.

I've just recently did a total reinstall not from a backup.
