I found my old iPod 2G in a drawer and decided to downgrade it to iOS 2.2. WOW its fast again and is a great little music player, I had forgotten all about this thing. I am happy I took the time to downgrade it. 4.2.1 ran like a dog on it. The battery life is amazing again since I turned all connections off too. This post has no purpose other to tell everyone how amazing iOS 2.2 is. Lol.

Only thing better than iOS 2 is iOS 1, ha. I still wish I could get iOS 3 on my 3rd gen. touch.

I agree, I really wanted to use my old iPhone 4 as car iPod, but I don't have blobs to downgrade to 6.1.3 and tethered JBs aren't worth it. I miss the old iOS.

Agree with both of you completely. I refuse to use anything newer than iOS 6. It's just a mess and I'm not really missing out on much. Also, Forestall left just after the release of iOS 6. I really miss Steve's Apple, I loved that company.

How did you manage to downgrade to 2.2? I get error 20 message. Having iOS 4 installed.

I had the same error a few times I tried, I had success using an IPSW I downloaded from Felix Burns. The ones from IPSW.me gave me errors on both the iPod 2G my iPhone 3G which I just put on iOS 3 yesterday. You can try 3U tools too if you have a Windows box.

It worked!
I downloaded from Felix Bruns. Then I tried the restore using my Snow Leopard partition and iTunes 9. I tried it a few times because of error messages. Maybe the DFU-mode made problems, but finally it worked!

Do you guys think I'll have any luck downgrading a first gen. touch from 3.1.3 to 1.1.0? It would appear that 1.1.0 is still signed.

I've been desperately trying to get 2.2 to run on mine, and it won't work at all. Even using the Felix Bruns ipsw. What should I do?
It usually just gets stuck at this, and nothing happens on the iPod.

My battery died and it went into recovery mode and I had to restore it to iOS 4. It looks like iOS 2 isn't signed anymore like it was when I posted this. Im sure theres a way to pwnd dfu it to iOS 2 or 3 again I just don't have any red snows anymore.

I had to use iREB and iTunes 11.4 on 10.6.8 but I got it restored to 2.2.1. Phew. That was a close one. iOS 4 on this thing is a total dealbreaker.

Can you verify if the model number starts with “Mb”? If it starts with “MC” it will not downgrade as those versions shipped with 3.somewhat already on it from the factory.

Good point, if you do have a MB try an older version of iTunes with pawnd DFU mode. If you do have to go to iOS 3 it’s still better than 4 by miles with speed and battery life.
