Okay so I need quick advice. All I will be using this for is to store and play bird songs (hey don't laugh...haha...okay you can laugh, yeah I am a nerd).

I like the nano for its portability very important in the field which is where I will use this 99% of the time.

However it seems the 6th gen 8gb is about the same price as a used 3rd gen in fairly nice condition. Aside from having a much larger touch screen is there any benefit for my purpose to getting the touch vs the nano?

Also anyone have any advice on where to get the best price on one? Thanks!

Thanks in advance!

Theres no such thing as a 3rd generation 8GB iPod touch model. It was just a re-packaged 2nd generation with a $100 price cut and the iOS 3.0 software update for free. If the seller asks anything over $100 dollars for it he/she is scamming. I sold off my iPod touch 3rd gen 32GB back in march for $150 which would be exactly half the retail price. Was in great condition, too.

Thanks for your advice.

Well I could not find a single individual selling a 32 for that much. They are all selling the 8gb for near that price!!! They look heavily used too.

How does the search function work on the ipod nano 6th gen? Can I type in the name of a song I am looking for? I know on my ipod classic I would just use the click wheel to choose letter to form words.

Well I will be getting an 8gb 4th gen ipod touch. The front screen is immaculate, however the back is scuffed (seems to be the case with a used ipod, don't know why but they scratch easy) for $148 shipped. Hopefully that is a good deal, I thought it was.

The reason I settled on the ipod touch is that I need to be able to type the name of a bird in order to find it as I will literally have thousands of birds songs to sift through and it is too time consuming for my purposes to scroll through a set of birds to get to a particular species.
