Ok I am about to buy an Ipod Touch, one of the main things I want to do is jailbreak it so I can use cool apps. Now I'm thinking on buying the 8GB 3G, but I read that the 8GB 3G is really a 2G so is old generation, also I read that the 8GB 3G is the only model that is not jail broken yet, is all this true? or am I missing something new?

also what is the differences between a 2G and 3G. is there things a 3G can do that a 2G can't,(i.e. it can run apps and games that 2G is unable to run). maybe someone could tell me the main differences between generations, I am asking because if there is not many differences I could buy a 16GB 2G.

the main things I want to do with this ipod are: listen to music, play cool games, surf the web, listen to web radio, watch youtube, use apps from cydia so I can watch tv shows, and that kind of things.

thank you

3G (the 32 amd 64 GB verison) has a faster processor and twice the RAM. The so-called 8GB 3G is basically the same as the 2G. GeoHot just released an updated version of blackra1n that supposedly works on the 8GB 3G.

One thing that the 3G does that the 2G doesn't is voice control. Not that it's very useful -- I and my friends had a laugh over the crazy ways it interpreted what we said, like play Mozart when we wanted Elton John. But I've noticed at least one game that played faster and more stably on the 3G, and I'm sure more and more games would come out that would need the faster processor/more RAM. So if your main interest is games, I'd get at least the 3G 32GB.

The 16GB 2nd Gen is fully jailbreakable whereas the new 8,32,64 are only tethered jailbreaks right now because Apple sealed the exploit being used on these devices, so i vote for refurb 16.

It's a consideration, but I've been using a 3rd gen 32 GB on a tethered jailbreak, and I rarely have to power it down or reboot. And when I have to, it takes 30 seconds to restart it with blackra1n. However, I do have access to a computer pretty much wherever I go, while somebody who spends lots of times w/o computer access might feel less confident with a tethered jb.
