iPod ipod touch and microoft word

So, my dad ditched his blackberry in favor of a razor because of the increased internet and mail charges. He now needs a planer/calender type thing and i was thinking about getting him an ipod touch. He has a PC and uses Microsoft outlook for his contacts and scheduling and i know that can be synced with an ipod touch but can he put documents on an ipod touch? or open a microsoft word document that was sent to him in an email? This is a deal breaker for him. Thanks
