iPod Ipod touch artists out of order

Hey guys I need help. This is probably something simple but I couldn't figure it out. I did something to my ipod touch in which when I hook it up to my mac all the artists are out of order and scattered about. What is the best way to get them back in order. I tried selecting all then I couldn't find any option to do that. Anyone know the fix to this? Thanks so much.

I just had this happen to me to, and went looking for some answers. I found one that I thought just COULDN'T work, but it did.

In iTunes I sorted my "Music" folder by artist. Just to be safe I also sorted the playlists that I sync (cause I only sync a few) by artist as well. Then I did a sync on the iPod (mine's an iPhone), and now all of the artists are back together they way they should be. I had many duplicate "sets" of letters, etc., and it all looks correct now.
