iPod iPod Touch Screen Discrepancy!

Apple is running their back-to-school special and are giving away free iPods. Long story short, I have one iPod 16GB Touch pre-January update and one 8GG w/update. The screen on the 8GB is markedly dimmer at full brightness compared to the 16GB. I would say the colours are more muted on the 8GB as well whereas the 16GB can be described as having a slight "washed out" effect.

Is this normal?
