iPod iPod touch "unknown device" warning

Yesterday when I plugged my USB cord into my IPod touch, and to the back of my Motherboard, It worked. But today when I tried again, It said that It was an unknown device. So then I decided to test with a small experiment. I tried plugging in my old MP3 player with It's USB cord, and to my complete surprise, It failed to work. I'm unsure of what the problem is, and I need help! Please either post here, or reply to me by my email. (Tessa_L26@hotmail.com)
