iPod touch Ipod Touch Warranty

I jailbroke my ipod, but then I accidentally dropped it in water. The water indicator doesn't show any red on it, but now my ipod doesn't hold any charge and only turns on when plugged in. I have a warranty on it, but I don't want it be invalidated because of the jailbreak.

So basically, does the warranty (I got the extended two years) cover the actual iPod dock (the ones with the pins)? If so, then could I just mess those up and return it because of that, so it won't turn on and they won't know its jailbroken? o-o

I think the Genius Bar is smarter than you think they are, and trying to lie and cover up accidental damage probably won't work.

However, I'd go in and be nice to them and ask for a one time exception. The worst thing that could happen is they say no, no?

Obviously we can tell, we're not stupid ya know.

There are indicators inside the iPod as well, so scratching the dock connector will further void your warranty.

Just go in, speak the truth.

Don't think you fully understand jailbreaking.

A restore eliminates any traces of jailbreaking.

Jailbreaking has nothing to do with this, it's the fact that he dropped it in water and there are indicators within the iPod that shows Apple people what had happened.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! So I figure I might as well tell them about the water damage, but will the warranty cover that? o-o Just so you know, I have the 1 year warranty at Walmart and then the two years for the Applecare Protection Plan.

No. Water Damage is not covered. Period.

As long as your iPod touch is physically in one piece (not broken up into several smaller parts), and Apple's technicians determine that it is possible to repair the damage, then it qualifies for out-of-warranty repairs. You won't get the repairs for free (like you would if the damage was covered by a warranty), but the repair price is still significantly cheaper than purchasing a whole new unit. And at the end of the day, out-of-warranty repairs will typically actually deliver you a like-new refurbished unit.
