iPod ipod video dead and won't charge- even after resetting

My ipod video drained and died. I've tried charging it through the computr cable, wall unit and car unit. It won't take a charge from any of these. I've tried resetting it (holding the menu and center button) but the screen remains dark. It will flash the apple icon briefly but then it goes back to the 'no battery' icon and goes blank.

I'd appreciate any tips as to what might be going on.

Will it work while plugged in? If so, it sounds like you need a new battery.

No, it won't work even when plugged in.
