I noticed my iPod Classic earbuds have three conacts and the iPhone earbuds have four contacts. I've been using the iPod earbuds for both and they work, but I'm curious about the less contacts on the iPod. Any thoughts? Thx.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing the 4th contact is for the microphone.

 I was looking through the forum (since my search didn't pull up anything) and saw that the iPhone earbuds have a microphone. I didn't unwrap them because I was using the iPod earbuds. Duh!

Thanks for the reply.

The iPhone headset also has a button that can pause a song and skip to the next track by clicking that button twice. Not sure if that is on the extra contact or not, just pointing out it could.
