The marketing. Apart from that, I would buy from iRiver rather than from Apple ;-) (I have an iPod clickwheel 20GB and an iRiver iFS 899..)

it's the interface, i dont want to be fiddling around with a crappy interface if i want to change playlists, every other player i have has had a crap screen and a rubbish gui, also the size of the things, the ipod is smaller than most players, also other players feel flimsy, my friends creative player is all horribly plasticy and flimsy.

if your a mac user or will be in the future no question get an ipod, if your a pc user and dont intend to be a mac user i'd still get an ipod it's just such a nice player. and no i dont fall for the hype and popularity of the ipod i have a first gen 5GB ipod aswell as my 20GB 3rd gen.

Its style dammit!

No other MP3 comes close in terms of its style and everything around the iPod.

You dont see the your favourite celeb with a Creative Zen do you?

One might argue that £ for £ the iRiver of Creative might be better. Its debatable but the fact is, hardly anyone who isn't into computers knows who they are. Everyone knows what the iPod is. And thats why it sells. Why spend £200 on a no-name mp3 player when the iPods popularity guarentees a certain level of comfort when lightening your bank account.

Which is what Dell with their 'DJ' will never understand. Apple arnt competing with Creative, Dell or iRiver so much with their iPod. they are competing against Sony, Nike, Swatch and any other flashy expensive brand you can think of.

PS: Yes i know Nike and Swatch dont make MP3 players, but they are competing in terms of brand- as in the 'must have' item.

I always wanted to have Apple hardware because I wanted to be different.. think different.. now that I bought an iPod and a PowerBook, suddenly everybody seems to have that stuff ;-) Darn. Think mainstream.
