ipod wont let me set up sons iMessage

Hi Got two iPods for the kids and set daughters iMessage up after a bit of hassle
However when i try to set my sons up im getting the (wrong Password) and this email is already an apple id Well it can't be we have the email account its a simply gmail account on his iPod already


Any ideas Guys/

Why can't his email address already be an apple id? Maybe you don't use it, but it seems like it is an apple ID?

You're not being very clear either about what really is the problem and when you're getting the errors you're getting. Can you be a little more detailed?

Sorry we do use the email address its his general account but when i try to create an apple id with it the message come back this is already an apple id ???

So, it's already an Apple ID? Did you try https://appleid.apple.com/ and reset your password and type in that gmail account?

Sorted i had to set the apple Id on the iPod as my own @me account ,as he's too young to have an account after i had done that you can specify the email account to send and receive messages from.

it's not very clear i consider myself quite savvy with this stuff but getting an error message saying the account was already an apple id and the password is wrong doesn't help very much.
