My ipod hasn't been able to sync lately I know it's not water damage.
I tried restore, turning it off & onn
I even bought another apple cord but that didn't work
I tried to sync on my macbook and my vaio neither worked
It was able to charge with an off-brand usb cord that only charges, but now it won't even do that
When I turn it off and plug in an usb cord it starts up, but then doesn't charge or sync, just starts up.
Does it sound like a software issue?
And will it be covered by Apple if I take it to the genius bar, I still have 6 months on the standard warranty

Also since I got my ipod if I leave the apple brand mic & headphones plugged it every once in a while it starts playing on it's own. It's problematic when I take my ipod to school and if I forget to unplug it and it goes off i;m screwed.

It sounds more like a hardware issue (possibly battery) moreso than software. I would definitely bring it into an apple store and have them look at it. You've got nothing to lose. Depending on the store and time you go in, you may need to wait a while before speaking with a genius. I would recommend making a reservation before you go in to avoid the wait.

Yah, theres not much else you can do other than take it to apple.
