Someone on another thread said that the iPod Touch & Nano (assuming also the shuffle) all be discontinued in the near future. Can anyone see this happening? I hope it does not because I love my Nano and its a great device for SIZE which I use all the time, despite having a iPhone 6. What are your thoughts?

Just as people love their MBP without DVD drive. My thought is Apple will do whatever they want. If you don't like it then don't buy it. You have a choice.
Maybe you should read his comment again, he said that he loves the size of the Nano, that's something other Apple devices don't offer as the main attraction. So, which choice does the person has if the Nano iPod will be discontinued?
The current iPod Nano is using some chips from the iPhone 4S and 5. It probably wouldn't be hard for them to stick 5C and 5S versions of them, push out an update (they might have to for iTunes 13 anyway), but I don't know how ICs on boards work. I was just looking at a list of all the stuff in them.
The iPhone 4 will be obsolete by the end of the year most likely, so we still have awhile until it is a problem. But it probably won't be considering the biggest problem with the Classic was the hard drive and these are using the same as the phones.
My prediction is that they'll end up in the refurbished section like the classic MacBook Pros next year. They won't do any hardware updates.
The iTunes 13 announcement will give us a clearer picture of what's going to happen. I did hear Eddy say on a podcast he knew people were concerned about their music obtained outside of iTunes, so that gives me hope they're not going to do something extremely bad for us.

There are definitely other choices out there but people will always have something to critic about anything (e.g. it doesn't do this/that, it looks ugly, blah blah blah).

In the near future, the iPod touch is not going anywhere (it's A8 chip will probably be supported until mid 2018 at worst or mid 2019 at best).

I cant see the iPod being discontinued, they are the most available devices in the market for what they do. I will have a very hard time to find a device to replace my iPod Shuffle when the time comes that I need a new one; which on the amount of mountain bike adventures I go on, something bad is bound to happen ( I have fell in a river before...)
Its been the best music player for anything that I do when I need something to exercise with. A 5.7" phone is just too inconvenient when running or doing rounds on a kicking bag, where I can just clip this impossibly tiny Shuffle on my top. I know im not the only one who shares this opinion, so it would be a shame to see the Shuffle discontinued.
I remember reading the iPod is still a multimillion dollar a year profit for Apple product. Even though it's not what it used to be, millions of dollars is nothing to scoff at.
I personally hope they don't get rid of it. I still use an iPod as my workout player. I would hate having to use my phone for that in the future.

Also not forgetting that if you have a 16GB phone space is limited. I store all my music and my audio Bible on my Nano so I do not waste valuable space on my phone.

If you have a 16gb iPhone (6s unlock - USD649; 6 unlock- USD549) plus 16gb nano (USD 149) then you could have just bought a 64gb iPhone (6s unlock – USD 749; 6 unlock – USD 649). You are actually saving USD 49 plus 32gb more storage.
You assume too much poster. I was referring to my own situation. I have a 8GB iPod Nano and I use it for music, as my 16GB iPhone 6 only has so much free space available.
With all the streaming services which can only be used on a smartphone (speaking of portable devices) I can imagine that revenue from iPods slowed down dramatically in the last few years. Most people listen to music (streamed and bought via iTunes for example) on their phones... You hardly see people with iPods, let alone MP3 players anymore. I might go out on a limp here, but I think in the long run they will discontinue iPods altogether.
I sure hope not. I usually do not listen to music but rather podcasts. I download them to my player so I do not have to stream over the air. I do this because I am on a limited data plan (1GB). As far as music is concerned I only have a 16GB iPhone 6. I store all my music and my audio bible on my iPod Nano 8GB as it has far more available space remaining. Its also many times smaller than the iPhone 6.

That's not assuming. That's the price and product that Apple currently offers. As of now, you can get an iPhone 6 64gb for $649. If you were to get an iPhone 16gb ($549) plus iPod Nano 16gb ($149) then you would be saving money.
This is all referring to your statement about 16gb iphone being insufficient storage when you could just bought a bigger storage iPhone.

I cannot buy anything until I am allowed with my carrier when my upgrade option is available which will be middle of next year. So for the moment I will use my iPod Nano.
I got the same Problem with my iPhone, there's just not enough storage on my phone as well. I got a 16 GB iPod shuffle and I love it..
If they really discontinue iPods, that will probably be in a couple of years or so, until then we can upgrade to phones with bigger storage and all our struggles will end
PS: I got an iPhone (4s) with only 8 GB storage so I only save what's necessary. For photos I use the dropbox app, so the phone transferres all pictures I take into the dropbox. Then you can just delete the pictures from your phone. That saves me a lot of storage..

I don't know if the built-in Podcasts app does this, but Castro lets you tick a podcast subscription to be in "news mode". That way as soon as the new episode pops up, the previous one gets automatically deleted. It deletes a finished episode as soon as it does finish too. I like it mainly because it doesn't make you login to anything and it has a nice built-in search.
The data thing is hard. You could have 20 GB of it, but then you could also have three other people using it on the same plan, which is why I never really use it for anything other than browsing. Just this cycle so far my dad is using 3 GB, my brother 10 GB. I'm using 500 MB just from using Safari, Tapatalk, and the few apps that have to ping for weather updates, new email, etc.
I just grab photos in from Image Capture/iMazing to a folder on the Mac. I always am charging it on there anyway, so why not just do all that stuff then?
