Well I am looking at getting a 30GB iPod Video but I am a little concerned about a possible new model. Looking at the iPod buying guide suggests that a new model might be on its way as the current one is 254 days old whith an average change time of 207 days. I know Hon Hai hinted that a new one might be about to be released, but do you think there will be? With the deal with the movies being delayed to possibly 2007, do you think that the new iPod will be delayed. Then again, does the recent release of the U2 iPod suggest that the 30GB will not change much... or could it just be a special edition to raise sales?

Once again...

If you need it now, buy it now... If you can wait, wait.

I personally just purchased a 30 gig iPod. Then, when I got my replacement MBP, I requested that it be sent prior to me sending me current one, but in order to do that I had to pay for it in advanced. Basically I created an entire new order, which allowed me to get the free nano, then paid for it, and will be refunded for the other laptop once they receive it. Works for me, I can't be without the laptop, yeah I am out 2490 for a couple weeks, but I get another iPod. Anyways, I ended up going with another 30 gig which is 269 minus 179 cost me 90 plus tax. Of course I spent 2490 on a MBP 2.16 :)

But, I love the 30 gig. Yeah there is going to be an update somewhat soon, but I don't think untill the end of the year. Like I said, if you need it now, buy one now. If not, wait for the update.

If you really really want one, just buy it.

If you can wait, then wait :)

The new 6G iPod will be worth the wait for sure.

I concur, but If you can wait, I hear the 7g will be loaded ...;)

Hard to say what will be released and when, but it would seem that the iPod 6G is bound to be unveiled soon. But being a owner of the 60GB iPod 5G, I can highly recommend the current version as being a great iPod. :)

it depends what you mean as "soon" for thinking there might be a new iPod released. I would be very shocked if it was before Sept./Oct. because what i see the student union iPod deal thing as is a way to move the extra supplies of iPods to make way for the new revisions coming out. If you cannot wait at least 3 months, i'd say buy now. The problem is we don't even know if there will definitely be a new iPod coming out after the student deal ends, it may even be a month or two after that! That makes it a possible time period of 4-5 months of iPodlessness. Seems a waste to wait.

I reckon the new ipod will be postponed until October. The original one was October 2001 so this would celebrate the 5 year anniversary.

Another factor which might influence my choice is price. Apple are currently selling the 30GB at £219 here in the UK. I would guess that the next generation iPod will be around that figure still. It is possible to get the current iPod for £175 at Amazon, which is nearly £45 cheaper. When the new iPod comes out, how long will it be until companies like Amazon can sell it at such cut prices?

no one here can tell you definitively when the new ipods are coming, but the majority of guesses lie around late fall/winter.

if you want to wait that long, go for it, but i'd say that if you're in the market now, buy one now.

OK, thanks. As my main use for it will be music, I can't see Apple can improve it too much can they? Well I guess they could improve the battery life... but that big screen would drain it quickly I am sure!
