Hello there.

I'm in doubt on what to buy and hoped someone here has some insight for me.
Main question is: IPP2 12.9 or rMB

Usage:
Thesis writing
Multiple tabs at once
Multiple pdfs/word documents at once
Powerpoints
Usual office work/email etc
Light photo editing
Movies
Music

What would be my best option you reckon?

Multiple Word docs has not been shown off as a new feature of iOS 11 yet, although two instances of Safari is ready supported in iOS 10.

I am interested in the answer to this as well. Would be icing on the cake if iOS allowed multiple instances of the same app platform wide with iOS 11.

If this is a deal breaker type feature you may be better off with the rMB.

As of now I believe you can't have multiple word documents open on the ipp, maybe a software update from ms will make it happen.

With your usage, I would probably go rMB. iOS 11 is a huge leap forward for multitasking, but it still can't compare to macOS.

I went IPP 12.9 -> rMacbook (Top BTO spec) -> IPP2 12.9 (Tuesday!)

I got the macbook as I felt I needed something more flexible on a monthlong photography excursion. Truthfully, I didn't. Been waiting for V2 since to sell the rMB and go back to the IPP!

It's just so much more horsepower than a rMB. I've edited 4k videos taken with DSLR's on it with no issue as well. I've missed the IPP every day since I sold it.

The multiple PDF/Document at once is actually minor, it's easy to jump in/out of documents. It's a different mindset and you quickly adapt to it.

Everything else on your list it's way better at. Couple in iOS 11 updates and I am literally ANTSY with anticipation for Tuesday...

Feel free to ask me any questions since I've used both for over 6 months each back to back :D

[EDIT: If I wasn't clear, I vote iPad Pro 12.9 v2]

How is the typing and editing of mistakes on the ipp? Is it hard to select words you need to edit/copy? Do you run into situations where you miss a trackpad/mouse? Is switching between word documents fast and easy?

I'm someone who writes fairly often and I definitely miss the ability to select text with a trackpad. It's really the only dealbreaker for me.

I recently cashed in some reward points and got a gen 1 12.9" IPP and an Apple Smart Keyboard. I also have had a 2015 12" Macbook for a year (refurb from Apple.) There are certain things on the IPP which are really annoying to do like copy and paste or constantly having to reach up to move the pointer around or scroll. Like quoting part of somebody's post in your reply in these forums is just so much harder to do on the iPad. I do enjoy the IPP for content consumption and web browsing but I don't think it can replace a Macbook for me just yet. It's definitely a more versatile device and feels more futuristic but it's not quite there yet as a laptop replacement IMO.

If you're open to jail breaking your device you can pair a Bluetooth mouse which would make the spreadsheets and writing more tolerable.
