Just got the new 11 inch to replace my iPad Air 2. I was watching the latest Star Wars movie and noticed a lot of ips glow and bad black levels, put the old one side by side and the old iPad was superior in those respects. In darker scenes it was difficult to make out any details. It gets really bad when viewing at an angle (seen in pic, didn’t want to get copyright infringe from Disney though:). The colors are less accurate in the new iPad and it’s been giving me some eye strain. Also noticed that the max brightness is higher on the air 2 making me worry about using the new one outside in sunlight.

Anyone else notice this or do you think I’ve got a bad display?

The air 2 is on the left, sorry for picture quality, tried to get the brightness the same on both.

my 9.7" first gen pro has the exact same purple haze at that viewing angle. so does my 2018 MacBook Pro. interestingly, my iPhone 7 doesn't colour shift and looks like your air 2. is it potentially a consequence of whatever changes they made to support True Tone and P3 wide colour? maybe its just coincidence?

the mitigating factor is that the colour shifting is pretty specific to viewing from the diagonal off axis, which isn't exactly an ideal viewing angle to begin with. normal angles for me at least still look fine.
