first and only post? really? hmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................

if you are not the developer of this app, i suggest you check out istockmanager, offers level 2 real time quotes. trading stocks without level 2 is like trading blind

Been ........................here for while not the first one buddy !!!!!!!!!!

i saw other app istockmanager but that app is not that easy to use and very complicated.

You should check out iptrader...............beside level 2 it has great functionality.

I checked out ipTrader and it's a great tool. I've begun using it and it's already saving me time...and I never miss a thing. I love the "Watch List." This app makes the iPhone more powerful than ever. I highly suggest using it.

If you find istockmanager not easy to use maybe you should not be trading.....

Despite the fact that the original poster and the two others who posted favorable feedback on this app happened to have made this their first and only post (i'm sure we will all interpret this the same way)...........i decided to give this app a try considering that it's free anyway.

Here are my thoughts regarding the app, so bskantze, xxxpunkap, and investerforlife please feel free to call up the dev and let him know:

When it comes to trading, real time, real time, real time is key. And when i say real time, i mean STREAMING realtime. With that, here are my thoughts on iptrader.

1) Stock quotes - IPtrader quotes throughout the app, whether in the homepage for the indices, quotes page, or watchlists......the quotes are not "streaming" realtime. they are realtime, but they are not continuously updated. you need to "refresh" whatever screen you are containing a quote to update the quote. to make this more annoying, there is no "refresh" button so you need to switch out of the screen and back into the quote screen to "refresh" the quote. how anyone can trade with this is beyond me.

istockmanager provides streaming realtime quotes throughout their whole app.

2) No lvl 2 quotes. to trade without lvl 2........well good luck

istockmanager provides realtime streaming lvl 2 qutes

3) Order entry screen - this screen is the clunkiest and most inefficient order entry screen that i've ever seen or played with. When you access the order entry screen with a symbol, it automatically defaults to a Buy 100 at Market, Day and this is presented in a "list" type format. To change from the default buy to sell or markt to limit or day to gtc, etc. you need to click on the row containing what you want to change. for exampe to change from market to limit, you click on the order type row, then you are brought into a new screen containing a new list of different order types you can select. As you can imagine, if you want to change the whole default order, you may need to access several separate individual screens one by one to get your order right. One for action (buy/sell/etc), one for quantity (separate screen here as well to specify), one for order type (market/limit/etc), etc., etc. I don't know about you, but when i want to trade a stock, i want one screen from which i place my order, not half a dozen different screens.

istockmanager's order entry screen is indeed one single screen from where you can configure your order. Not to mention, dynamically streaming realtime quotes on istockmanager's order entry screen as well.

Also to note is that if you have multiple accounts, with iptrader you will need to log into each one individually, whereas istockmanager allows you to toggle between accounts from within its app.

So the question comes up, is there any functionality in iptrader that doesn't exist in istockmanager or does it better? I did find one, and that is "Price History" functionality. You can specify a date range for price history for a given symbol and the app will return this data (includes volume history) in a list. How useful this would be to any trader is questionable. Me, personally, the more information i have the better, and considering the fact that neither app has volume data integrated into their charts, the price history information is useful to me in knowing the volume history of a stock.

Based on the above key areas for any trader, where iptrader does not provide streaming/dynamically updated realtime quotes, no lvl 2, a ridiculously inefficient order entry screen, no linked accounts toggling, I won't be using this app. however i do look forward to any improvements that might be made to this app in the future and i do suggest that everyone out there give both apps a try and make their own decisions as to which to use. Can't hurt considering that both apps are free.

diesel, thank you for the excellent comparison and analysis. I agree with you on the ease of use/better layout and streaming in iStockManager. A little competition is good, hopefully it will push both developers into making continuous improvements. iStockManager is definitely in the lead right now, can't wait to see what happens in a few months :)

one dimensional analysis

I think Diesel's analysis is completely one dimensional...Afterall, who besides the iStockManager developer will spend so much time in favoring one app over the other ;)

you kidding me? as with your cohorts, bskantze, xxxpunkap, and investerforlife you signed up on macrumors to make a single post in this thread to hype up iptrader? to the devs of this app or those affiliated with it, you are not doing yourselves any service by coming in here and creating accounts for the singular purpose of hyping this app. Because it certainly seems like you are. you think we are that stupid? and when someone mentions where this app falls short, instead of acknowledging the drawbacks of your app, you send more of your pals to come in and question the user feedback? you need to spend more time improving your app and less time questioning the feedback.

with that out of the way, answer me this Snoop:

1) Does iptrader provide you with streaming, dynamically refreshing realtime quotes ANYWHERE?

Answer is NO

2) Does iptrader provide you with level 2 quotes

Answer is NO

3) Does iptrader allow you to configure an order from a single order entry screen without ever requiring you to go into a separate screen to specify the order details?

Answer is NO

4) Does iptrader allow you to toggle between multiple accounts from within the app without requiring you to log out and log back into the individual accounts?

Answer is NO

Now, if you ever traded a day in your life............aren't realtime streaming dynamic quotes, level 2 quotes, an efficient order entry screen, and the ability to toggle between multiple accounts from within the app important to anyone wishing to trade stocks? Answer is Yes.

So to call my comprison between iptrader and istockmanager which provides all of the above one dimensional obviously shows me that either you're here to hype iptrader or you've never traded a day in your life. perhaps, i should have created a separate thread with my review and comparison between both apps, complete with screenshots to highlight my points, instead of burying it within this thread that only you iptrader devs and buddies seem to be visiting. either way, let me give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are in no way affiliated with the devs but out of the goodness of your heart, you decided to open an account on macrumors and a post to pump iptrader just happened to be the first post you wanted to make just like bskantze, xxxpunkap, and investerforlife before you. Then do us all a favor and why don't you provide us with a proper "multi" dimensional comparison of istockmanager and iptrader. At the end of my review, i did say that everyone should download both apps and try them out and judge for themselves which one works better for them. Since you questioned the "fairness" of my review and comparison even though you can't dispute the facts that i based my review on, why don't you try both apps and tell me where you feel iptrader really outshines and outdoes istockmanager. you have nothing to lose but time since both apps are free. I would really like to know and i'm sure others as well. Perhaps i missed some great feature in iptrader? Please.......set me straight and show me how a proper multi dimensional review should be constructed using only the facts of both apps. But more importantly, please tell me what trading edge iptrader could provide me that istockmanager could not. thanks.

hmmm

I have nothing to do with either of these apps...i am out of here..i am not here to hype up anything but hey, I don't need to convince anyone...and gracious god..watch your logic..according to you, if someone is a newbie, he is a developer..how logical is that..this indeed tells me the credibility of the person performing 'analysis'..and dude..the amount of time you are spending on favoring one app tells me that you could be here to hype up iStockManager but I am not going to assume things that way..get a life and stop wasting your time like i am about to sToP wasting my time...)

I still await an intelligent response to my question as to what trading edge iptrader provides over istockmanager, let alone equal to it? you won't and can't answer that question because in all seriousness, it provides none. you know it, i know it, and anyone who tried both apps and does any sort of stock trading will know it after playing with both apps for only a few minutes.

by the way, i never said ALL newbies were developers, what i more or less said was that I find it highly suspicious that the person who started the thread happened to have just joined macrumors (with just this one post), and that was his first and only post. this was followed by 3 other newly registered users (including you Snoop) who decided that this would be the thread in which to post their first and basically only post reminding us all what a great app iptrader is. I posted my my thoughts and facts on iptrader in comparison to its only competitor app, istockmanager, and you didn't like what i had to say so you registered here and came onto this thread to specifically tell me in your first post that i was being biased and one dimensional? Please, we weren't born yesterday.

as for the credibility of my original review, it was based on fact, and it doesn't get anymore credible then that. i have yet to read anything from you or your other one time poster buddies as to the points that i raised in my review regarding iptrader's:

1) lack of streaming realtime quotes
2) lack of level 2 quotes
3) inefficient order entry screen
4) lack of multiple account support

you can't dispute any of the points i mention above so you throw a tantrum and a hissy fit and tell me to get a life since i took the time to play with both apps and posted my feedback so that the rest of the macrumors community could potentially benefit from it? is slinging such insults at potential users going to make iptrade a better product? NO.

if mentioning that istockmanager provides all of the above listed features, whereas iptrader does not makes me seem biased, then YES, you are correct because, i will ALWAYS be biased in favor of the superior app. Maybe someday, if iptrader closes the gap between itself and istockmanager, i might be biased towards it, however as it stands today, istockmanager is the superior app in my opinion. and when it comes to trading MY money, MY opinion is what matters most. if you are indeed going to actively trade using iptrader and its lack of features, good luck to you sir. you will most certainly need it.

diesel wins... as if it were actually a battle in the first place... so it's good that you do "sToP" as your only embarrassing yourself and what might as well be your app further.

Hello, I am iStockManager Developer.
I think that users have the ability to choose here.
They can even have both apps, because they are both FREE.
So stop fighting, and start making money! :)

I think Diesel's analysis is completely one dimensional...Afterall, who besides the iStockManager developer will spend so much time in favoring one app over the other ;)

Diesel is not me (Developer), and I don't even know him.
Also, I think the comparison is pretty objective.
But, yes, I couldn't have done it better.

Trade-Ideas App for the I-Phone

Hi. I use Trade-Ideas for my trading and they have an application to work with the I-phone. I use it everywhere I go. They also work with TD Ameritrade. I can't complain with this company. I just came across them one day after talking to Scottrade and Etrade who both uses their platform within their software. They have everything you need to configure strategies and set up alerts. There's even backtesting, or the OddsMaker, and the Robot which will automatically trade for you. I'd check it out if I were you. Here is there website: http://www.trade-ideas.com/
There's a video for using the I-phone too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oDpZDrV35s
