IR Transmitter for mac?

Im looking for if anyone has experience with IR transmitters for Mac. I have a mac mini that I'm using as a media center pretty much, with a stereo and projector connected (Right now i just use it to serve to my apple tv)

What i'd really like is to get an IR transmitter onto it so it could power on the projector or stereo when needed… If i could get ahold of a decent transmitter that works for mac i could probably come up with some way of doing like on demand things (when playing music turn on the stereo, when playing videos turn both on, when not in use turn both off, etc)

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing???

If your stereo and/or projector has RS232 ports on them you could use a usb to com port adapter. And then all you will need to know is the RS232 commands to send to the devices from the mac.

I'm too lazy right now to go look it up, but the folks over at EyeTV have links to a couple of External IR transmitters that work natively with Mac. I own one (but still haven't gotten around to hooking it up).

Use a good universal remote for that. Get one that's activity-based (URC MX-line or Harmony) and you can do the things you want.

Well actually the projector does have a 232 port, didn't notice it before since its a round style one, i was thinking about rigging up some kind of interface like that to the power buttons of both devices (Stereo is just a cheapo that barely came with a remote)

@paulrbeers: Ill give a look around for EyeTV and see what i can find. iRed might be my only option here -_-, ZephIR seems better but they are out of stock due to coding issues :/

@mslide: could you elaborate? never heard of those Oh you mean an actual handheld remote to turn the things on and off
