I'm thinking about buying irealSMS but I want to know if a new SMS notification shows up on top of the app. I ask this because when I had biteSMS I would only see the notification above the default SMS app which was useless b/c I had to keep it on my home screen. Does irealSMS work the same way or does it show a notification above the app as well?

Bah, I hate that App. It screwed all my SMS up, resulting in me having to wipe all of my SMS off the phone. I'm now using the normal Text app again now, iRealSMS isn't worth the time downloading it, never mind the cash.

Really REALLY dumb question.
What does mySMS offer that the regular SMS app doesn't?

From the site:

# FULL app in Landscape Mode
# Quick Reply from Spring Board or ANY app WITHOUT closing the app
# Conversation Mode
# Your SMS messages organized in folders: Inbox, Drafts, Templates, Outbox, Sent
# Saving messages as drafts or templates
# Search messages by sender's name and text
# Character Counter
# Reply, forward and delete messages
# Delete all messages or delete per folder
# Forward and Reply via Mail
# Insert Contact details and templates
# Master password to restrict access to app
# Big text field - both for reading and writing SMS
# Add sender to contacts
# Turn on/off keyboard autoCorrection and autoCapitalization
# Automatically request sent notification via notification code
# Statusbar notifier for unread SMS
# Continue working while SMS are sent
# Mark all messages as read with one click
# SMS alerts can be deactivated -> no "new SMS" alerts when locked or outside iRealSMS
# Adding contact details to SMS
# Interactive phone numbers and HTML links

Forwarding SMS messages
landscape typing
Themes (which you can do with winterboard on the standard one too)
encryption if you want it
erase individual messages instead of an entire conversation

I have irealSMS and I like it, the only thing I don't like is that the notifications do NOT show up in the status bar... neither on the irealSMS icon... they just show up when you open the app, that's when the status bar as well as the irealSMS icon show up like a "2" for 2 unread sms.... I don't know if this is colliding with StatusNotifier, but this is what's going on for me so far... and I don't like that

Hasn't iReal got its own notification icon setting?

Yes it has, I tried disabling SMS notification on StatusNotifier, but it only shows up when I open the irealSMS app... the only icon that shows regardless is the "sending sms" icon...

Has mySMS icon notification? and in status bar? If so I'm gonna move to that one... or if it works with StatusNotifier the same

I just received 3 sms, closed the pop-up, and no notification on the status bar and on the iReal app... I open the app, then close the app, and the icon shows up on the status bar and on the ireal app... wtf? I might as well go back to the original SMS app... the status notifier should work either way... since I just have the original SMS app hidden with sbsettings...

I have noticed a few odd things like that. The author has promised an update soon so hopefully the notifications will be fixed.

Yeah... meanwhile I removed the app and got back to the original SMS app, and the notifications work nicely now... as soon as I respringed an SMS Notification showed up on the status bar because of StatusNotifier

It's in Advanced Settings

It has the notifications, you just have to change some default settings:

launch iRealSMS > Settings > Advanced Settings >

SMS Alerts > ON
Enable Quick Reply > your choice
Mark always as read > OFF
