I see a bunch of us come here nitpicking on Windows 10 and its UI or other bugs and it reminds me when I first started posting on the forums here about OS X 10.0. You couldn't even play a DVD in 10.0 until 10.1 came out. Or you had to switch back to Mac OS 9. Honestly my Surface and Windows with all its bugs feels again like the 10.0 OS X era with the frequency of updates. OS X really didn't get great until 10.4 or .5 and that was going on about the same amount of time windows 10 has been going. Ah nostalgia is so good!

The difference is windows is 3.0 came out around 30 years ago, Windows 10 is built upon windows 8 which rolled out 2012 - nearly 7 years ago. Heck, even windows 10 was released 5 years ago.

I'm not a windows hater, and MS has been making it better with each update, but there is a high level of inconsistency. MS pushes UWP, but chooses to use win32 for its edge/chromium project Want to make a change in the OS? Is it in the control panel, or settings app (or both)? The criticisms for the UI is well deserved and MS has had plenty of time to fix it but has not.

I just feel we should not compare windows 10 and OS X 10.0 because OS X 10.0 was a brand new OS built up from scratch (using NextStep) where as Windows has been around since the 1990s. Granted it received a number of major rewrites over the years but the fact remains windows 10 should not have the same initial teething problems that OS X 10.0 had. There's no reason for it.

While i LOVED OS X back then WIndows 10 is lightyears ahead of that OS X 10 was (as pointed out one is was a new os the other an updated version), 10.0 was laggy as hell, even opening a menu was slow.

10.2 and up till 10.6 i guess where the best OS X ever!

Windows 10 is great, may be not beautiful, (GOSH i miss the Aqua days) but it is stable enought, might need some code trimming, but it essentially is the best MS OS ever!

I just meant more like the excitement of seeing OS X evolve back then is kinda like with Windows 10 now, instead of not seeing any changes years between OS updates in the windows world.

Consider that, especially back in the days, Windows was used a lot more in companies, where stability (also as in ui stability) is more important than look and feel.

Consider how a small yet big change the start button was in Windows 8, lots of complains about that, while in reality it was only a fullscreen start, the rest of the OS was basically the same as windows 7.

I never understood the fuss about the start menu of windows 8, it was sure less usable to me than say windows 7, but i used it so little that never bothered me so much, but for the average user writing word and excel, that change was huge and brought usability down a lot.

Also people complain about inconsistencies in ui on Windows, but if you look at Garage band, iTunes, Finder, Final cut heck even the calculator (all from the same company) while they share some ui elements they always had completely different styles, yet no one complained about those...

For me, it replaced a feature that was easy to use, your programs accessible, with windows 8 on a PC, you had to wade through the metro panels. MS made Windows 8 touch first and that being the case it fails to be useful on the laptop/desktops. Windows 10 is an improvement.

There are inconsistancies macOS, to be sure, but I think windows 10 takes the cake in that department.
